sprouts to the desktop
Is there any way to get a sprout onto the desktop? I don't see anything on the share page that goes directly to the google desktop or vista gadgets.
Any of the platform apps such as gigya allow this to happen?
Thanks.

Yes. You can launch a Sprout on Clearspring and it can become a desktop widget. Unfortunately, the problem I've been having involves transparency. I haven't yet found a way to launch an odd-shaped Sprout on Clearspring and get a transparent background. Instead, I get the blue-gray background of the SWF URL.
Anybody know a way around this?
Thanks for the info - I'll try it out.
I don't have a way around it... but I did see the same problem... and then found somewhere on the clearspring site about transparency issues going to vista sidebar stuff.
Not much help... but it does confirm that it looks to be a clearspring / vista / desktop issue.
Hi Graydon,
There are ways of displaying your widget on your desktop. Probably the easiest and most reliable way is through Amnesty Generator, which you can download for free at http://www.amnestywidgets.com/GeneratorMac.html. This service works with both OS X and Windows, and allows you to display your widgets on the desktop. Another way you can do it is by using the scissors button on the top of your browser (Note: you can only use this feature on the latest version of Safari, 3.1.1). This button is located to the left of the 'Add Bookmarks' button and allows you to cut out a frame from your current web page and place it on the dashboard.
Hope that helps!
I tried the amnesty generator... worked great. Thanks for the info.
Hey Graydon,
Thanks for letting us know that Amnesty works awesome. I've been curious about it myself, I'm glad to know it is a great tool in maximizing the placement of sprouts on the web. Thanks for letting us know!

Tom - to add on now that I've played around some more...
I can add it to my own desktop as long as I want to have it as a Vista sidebar item.
Also, I don't see any "mechanism" to enable it to be distributed as a Vista doo-hicky... maybe I'm missing something about re-distributing it ?
right now - bottom line is... if you know the swf file location... it brings it over without a glitch (unsure about the transparency issue that's been mentioned before).
