That's an awesome idea! I was thinking about that myself, I have a hard time lining things up myself. Thank you for the great suggestion, we'll definitely take it into account. An alternative for now would be to use the alignment buttons in the "tools" menu on the left side (the bottom 8 buttons).
By CTRL clicking the items you want to align, you can select them and then push one of the alignment options under tools.
I'll admit to having some odd behavior with them in the past... but my latest experience seems to show that they are working.
A second alternative is to look over on the right in the properties box (once you select an item) and adjust the x / y values on each object so that they are where you want them. 0,0 coords are at the top left.
