Twitter feed sprout loading really slowly

I made a sprout designed to go on our FaceBook and MySpace pages to let our friends/fans/supporters know what we're up to as well as hopefully driving some more traffic to the pages. Having a few issues though:

  • the sprout is loading ridiculously slowly. the preview image loads fine however (on FaceBook - http://www.facebook.com/pages/PADI-Professional-Association-of-Diving-In... ) when I click on the static image to initiate the sprout, the background comes up not as fast as i'd like, but no big deal. the twitter text however takes forever, to the point that whether i'm in firefox or safari, it appears my browser has crashed. anyone got any hints how this can be improved? dpes anyone know if this is due to twitter's less than perfect uptime of recent? does the fact i used the FBML embed app rather than gigya mystuff play a role?

  • as we all know, facebook doesn't allow autoloading of apps and we are required to display a static image for the user to click on. ~however~ whilst poking around http://www.twitter.com i noticed that it's possible to create a customised badge using CSS and HTML. i don't suppose anyone knows if/how this could be integrated into a sprout so that the twitter feed displays without being clicked on?

cheers!

further to my previous post i tried to change the size of the sprout to give more room for the twitter feed however couldn't seem to get it to let me. so i recreated it to the new dimensions - it can be found here: http://farm.sproutbuilder.com/15210/load/LgCxM9MKBTfVWwiS.swf

still seems to be loading really slowly and causing havoc with the browser.

Hello Joshua,

Great background! Yes, there's definitely something wonky going on with your sprout. I'll investigate.

Hi Joshua,

We pushed an update live last night (4/19/08) that should resolve your slow loading sprout issue.
