thumbnail of pages not generating and sprout container completely invisible in Facebook

The first problem I'm encountering is my thumbnail image. The preview area says thumbnail image cannot be generated for all of my pages. Is there any way to get around it?

The other problem I seem to have is with Facebook. I put up my Sprout on my own Facebook profile and shared it with a few friends so far. Apparently when I try to view it from the MyStuff box, it is completely invisible. Upon hovering over the empty space, the cursor turns into a hand indicating there's a link. My Sprout only shows up once I click on the empty space. I looked at the profiles of my friends who also installed it and the same thing is happening. I tested this on Firefox, safari and IE so it doesn't seem like it's an issue with any one browser. Is there any way I can solve this problem?

I too am having an issue with the thumbnail menu, though it differs slightly. My thumbs are solid white boxes, and while one or two thumbs showed up at first very briefly, it has otherwise been consistent white boxes. The nature of the sprout is contingent upon these thumbs working-- and I remember them working in the past. Is this a temporary issue, or is there a way around it?

*edit*
I just realized the original poster was referring to the thumbs in her preview-- an issue which saving the sprout has worked for me in getting the thumbs to 'read'

my problem is with the thumbnail menu option within the sprout itself.

Hello,

Well, the thumbnails sometimes take a bit to get going. You might have to refresh to get them going. This is occasionally due to an internet connection or a few picture linking problems. As for Facebook. They have a policy about flash items that are displayed on their page. You have to have a transparent object over the flash that needs to be clicked to have access to the sprout. Sorry, this sometimes gets people the most.

As for the thumbnail menu problem. Are you still having this issue? It might be another image issue. Let me know what environment you're trying it on, and I'll see if I can find a solution.

Thank you both for your feedback!

Question: You mentioned in your last post, "As for Facebook. They have a policy about flash items that are displayed on their page. You have to have a transparent object over the flash that needs to be clicked to have access to the sprout. Sorry, this sometimes gets people the most."

What do you mean? Is there something I can do so that users don't need to click to see it?? Or is the hidden sprout until you click on facebook the only option?

Yeah the facebook issue it quite frustrating. having an 'empty' box on your profile page isn't cool. The majority of people won't have the urge to click on a blank box...

Is this a sprout-wide issue, I mean are any sprouts visible on facebook? Have any users reported any success with viewing sprouts on facebook?

Facebook has a policy about Flash content on their site. In order to get a flash object to appear, you will have to activate it first to have it show properly. There is a way to make it so your Sprout appears and shows, but still needs to be clicked on to activate. But of course, at least it's showing and isn't a black box.

I'm going to have to ask someone else about this, because I'm not sure how to properly do it. Give me a moment, I'll throw it up as soon as I can. Thanks for your patience.

Hello All,

The current problem with the blank FB snapshot image is a bug in our system where we are incorrectly generating the projects snapshot image when you have certain content on the 1st page of your sprout. We have a fix in the works, but even that isn't 100% yet. However here's a crazy (but it works) workaround you can try until we've got this totally fixed:

  1. For an existing project that you've already tried posting to FB, click "Save As" (If you're starting from a blank slate you can skip this step
  2. if you're starting from scratch, create your project
  3. Take a screenshot of the 1st page of your project
    • OS X: APPLE+SHIFT+4
    • Windows: PrtSc
  4. Upload that screenshot to your sprout project as an asset
  5. create a new "page" in your project and make it the first page of the proj.
  6. place your "screenshot" on this page
  7. publish to Facebook
  8. confirm that your facebook profile shows the snapshot image
    • clicking the snapshot activates the sprout, but the 1st page is your still your snapshot image so you can't interact with your sprout yet
  9. back in sproutbuilder, delete the 1st page of your sprout project (the snapshot image page)
  10. click publish
  11. DON'T re-post to FB
  12. go back to FB and check that after "clicking to activate" your sprout works as expected
