Facebook Issue

Before, when you clicked the facebook button it would let you post a sprout direct to your profile, now it makes you install the my stuff application which is really buggy. This sprout shows fine on iGoogle, but on Facebook the background water shot is gone...

Kelly,

Gigya who is our distribution partner at this time has always required you to install the My Stuff application in order to post a sprout on Facebook. What do you see when you post to Facebook? can you send us a screenshot?

This is what it looks like on my Facebook page http://screencast.com/t/DBNzESdx

I must have been thinking of something else, but I thought last night when I was sharing it through igoogle it would pull up the facebook post page -- I might have been using something else though. It would be great if you could post directly to facebook instead of using that mystuff application -- mystuff has always been really buggy for me.

Thanks for your help!

The background won't display on the facebook page but if you click on the mystuff module you can see it on the mystuff page. It would be better if you could assign a link to the sprout like a youtube page -- this way, you could just post on Facebook with a link and it would show...

Hello Kelly,

Please try deleting the sprout from your FB MyStuff, then reposting. FB requires a static image that overlays all Flash content because they don't like Flash content to autoplay everytime you load your profile. So FB is probably caching an old image of your sprout (perhaps before you added the background image). so even when you republish, FB still uses the same old snapshot image. Try reposting it.

Thanks,

Austin

How long does it take for Facebook to take a snapshot of your app? my apps are appearing without an image and it's been a couple days.

It should be instant. Try deleting the sprout in your FB account then, try re-quick-posting.

I've deleted the sprout out multiple times and it's still not showing. I've used various browsers etc. I'm worried that if it's this hard for me to add sprout to facebook its going to be twice as hard for our readers to figure it out

Hello Alex,

Thanks for the screenshot. If you click on the Edit My Stuff link, the My Stuff app should load. Does your sprout show up there? If not, try re-quick posting from Sprout Builder and be sure that you have another tab/window open and you're already logged into FB

Hello Andrew,

Are you still having problems with posting to Facebook? If so, if you click the MyStuff "edit My Stuff" link in your profile, then click "refresh profile" in the next page that loads, that may help.

You can also try cloning your project by doing a "save as" then posting that project to FB.

Hey Austin,

We are having the same problems as described above. Tried deleting it in the My Stuff edit screen. Re-posted, then tried re-saving it in sproutbuilder and re-posting as you instructed.

Here's a screenshot and the sprout.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Hello Massimo,

The current problem with the blank FB snapshot image is a new bug in our system where we are incorrectly generating the projects snapshot image when you have certain content on the 1st page of your sprout. We have a fix in the works, but even that isn't 100% yet. However here's a crazy (but it works) workaround you can try until we've got this totally fixed:

  1. For an existing project that you've already tried posting to FB, click "Save As" (If you're starting from a blank slate you can skip this step
  2. if you're starting from scratch, create your project
  3. Take a screenshot of the 1st page of your project
    • OS X: APPLE+SHIFT+4
    • Windows: PrtSc
  4. Upload that screenshot to your sprout project as an asset
  5. create a new "page" in your project and make it the first page of the proj.
  6. place your "screenshot" on this page
  7. publish to Facebook
  8. confirm that your facebook profile shows the snapshot image
    • clicking the snapshot activates the sprout, but the 1st page is your still your snapshot image so you can't interact with your sprout yet
  9. back in sproutbuilder, delete the 1st page of your sprout project (the snapshot image page)
  10. click publish
  11. DON'T re-post to FB
  12. go back to FB and check that after "clicking to activate" your sprout works as expected
